slow blog day

i wish i could take a picture of my cat and the way she's cuddling with me right now. when i lay on the couch with my computer in my lap, which is what i am doing right now, she has this tendency to stand on my chest. she comes from whatever she's doing, wherever she is, just to stand. on my chest. between my eyes and my computer. so i picked her up and tucked her under my arm on her back, thinking that she'd get annoyed and leave, but she didn't. she actually started purring, put all 4 of her paws on my forearm, which is crossed over her little body to reach my keypad, and is watching me type. sometimes i think she can read and understand our language, but she doesn't tell anyone so that i don't make her hold up her end of the rent.

in other news:
i have a canker sore the size of utah on the side of my tongue. i've been speaking with a slight lisp since late last week, and i want to cry every time i have to make an L sound. i've been surfing The Internet for an hour, trying to find a miracle cure, and have found pretty much nothing that i haven't aready tried:
* i may be lacking B and/or C vitamins
* wash the sore with baking soda and peroxide, to kill the germs and bring the pH back to normal
* don't use dental products with SLS
right, but how do i MAKE IT GO AWAY?!

and since i have nothing else to report, i would like to direct your attention to dooce's latest post, wherein she posts a few tidbits of the hatemail she recieves. at first, i thought it was going to be amusing, but i found myself getting kindof pissed. what the fuck is the point of writing hatemail? if you don't like what she's writing, or think that she writes about her toddler too much, or she doesn't write about her toddler enough, or that she's making too big a deal about having a bump on her arm biopsied, or you don't like her dog, or think she's a bad mother, then DON'T READ HER BLOG ANYMORE.

which leads me to this:
if you don't like what i put in this space:
fuck you, don't read it then. this is my blog, not yours.

and, for the record:
i happen to think that, while "dooce" is a rather unfortunate nickname, she is an extremely talented writer. more power to her.

i taught a dude how to change a tire

today was kindof a long day...

i'm trying to begin the process of making myself functional in the morning in preparation for classes next month, but so far, things are going as expected: i either convince myself that i don't need the alarm, or set it and know that i don't really have to get up and snooze for 2 hours. but i'm at least waking up before noon. baby steps.

then off to work at the west side. grr.
dear west siders: you suck. and you tip shitty, too.
though, starting my work week off at the west side actually makes me excited to go to work at the east side for the rest of the weekend. in the universe, there is balance.

but here's the kicker: on my way from work to target to get some apartment furnishings (yay, back to school sales in a university town), i ran out of gas. not on the road, but the gas light came on and i pulled in to the next station. it's sort of a sketchy station, and i'd never stopped there before, but i needed gas. so i'm filling up my tank, and i see these two 20something dudes in a BMW with the flattest tire i've ever seen. they were distressing about how they were going to get back to milwaukee, a solid hour's drive away. i watch in mild amusement as they blunder around, trying to fill the obviously irreparably punctured tire with air. by the time my tank was full, they were totally stumped and getting no help from whoever was at the other end of their cell phone (who, i later find out, is the car-owner's dad). having ample tire changing experience, and all of the necessary tools to do so in my trunk, i was debating about helping them, when, for some unknown reason, they pulled the car back up to the pump across the driveway from me. one of the dudes walked away and the other stared blankly at the owner's manual. i couldn't take it any more. i offered them help. as i was instructing the owner dude on how to work the jack and how to loosen the lug nuts before lifting the car, the other guy comes back and says, "oh, you found hel..... a girl?!" and then stood there in complete amazement of my tire-changing instruction. he asked me, "how come you know so much?" i said, "i have to, i'm a girl." once i finally convinced the owner guy that he might actually have to jump up and down on the tire iron to loosen the nuts, he finally got them off and i jacked the car up for him. i figured he could probably handle it from there. you know that life is unfair when a dude drives a BMfuckingW and doesn't know how to take care of it. i should have just made him trade cars with me... but there's a little bit of justice when he gets schooled, in public and in front of several other men, by a 115 pound girl. hah.

tomorrow will include finally getting those curtains up in the bedroom, and maybe getting the oil changed on the motorcycle. if i can get that damn oil plug out. grr. maybe i can get toni to do it, if i promise to let her ride it...

it's a good day when, even though i can't get the lug nuts loose or remove the oil plug, i still feel like a stud.

i came back from the michigan womyn's music festival...

and all of the emotions that are going along with it.

i know what i need. i hope i can find it.

HAH!

i am living in the lap of luxury.

internet access AND a window unit air conditioner in the bedroom. it doesn't get any better than this.

also, since my last post, i've given myself a major attitude adjustment. i'm human again. it feels good. except for the terrible nasal congestion....

so, in celebration of my awesome internet situation, i thought i'd let y'all in on where i'm going to be all night:

* tweaking thelesbian softball site
* catching up with molly, dooce, and my nana
* playing text twist

damn, ran out of steam already. guess it's for the best, i've been in bed all evening with a sinus headache and fever that only copious amounts of tylenol can cure. time for rest.

goodnight!
